A police officer in Western Australia commandeered an e-scooter to pursue an alleged thief, in the first arrest of its kind for the state.
The incident happened after a woman at a home in the Perth suburb of Swan River reported a man allegedly going through her car before he approached the property.
Police bodycam video released today shows the response by officers and the pursuit of the man allegedly fleeing arrest.
One office requisitioned e-scooter belonging to a member of the public during the chase.
"We believe this is the first instance in WA of an officer commandeering a civilian's e-scooter to arrest a suspect attempting to flee arrest," WA Police Force said.
A 40-year-old Middle Swan man was charged with one count of stealing and two counts of breach of bail.
He is due to appear before court today.
