A driver has died and a second has been seriously injured in a head-on crash in Sydney's west.
Emergency services were called to Mamre Road at Kemps Creek after a hatchback and a ute crashed shortly after 6am.
One driver died at the scene while a second was trapped for almost an hour before being released.
He is being taken by ambulance to Liverpool Hospital.
They were the only occupants of the vehicles.
Police are at the incident site and crash investigators are heading there to begin inquiries.
Traffic is heavy through the area and Mamre Road is closed in both directions.
Diversions are in place. Light vehicles can divert via Luddenham Road or Wallgrove Road, but heavy vehicles will need to use Wallgrove Road or The Northern Road.
