It's common to see people enjoying the beach with their pet dogs, but one Gold Coast surfer has taken another approach.
Shiva is often seen catching waves with her owner Higor Fiuza, but there's one difference — she's a snake.
The morelia bredli python is frequently spotted wrapped around Fiuza's neck or hanging onto the edge of his board as they hit the surf during summer.
"She goes for a swim a little and then comes back to the board — just cruising waiting for a wave, for the perfect wave," he told 9News.
"Go under the water and come up and she's just there — never put out my hand to save her or anything."
When asked how he knows Shiva enjoys the ocean, Fiuza said whenever she's annoyed she hisses, and that's yet to happen while out surfing.
