He said thank you for "the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days," the BBC reported.
"It means a great deal to us all."
He even managed to make a joke.
"It's fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather 'medical' focus. So I thought I'd come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all", he said.
William was in black tie for the event- which happened as his brother, Prince Harry flew back to the US after a very short visit to see his dad, King Charles, after his cancer diagnosis.
The brothers have an ongoing rift.
King Charles has been seen for the first time since his cancer diagnosis was announced.
He was spotted in a car heading to official London residence, Clarence House.
The King was dressed in a suit and tie as he headed home, as speculation continues about what form of cancer he has been diagnosed with, less than a year after his coronation.
