Australians have been warned to take extra care travelling to Indonesia as the country prepares for its upcoming presidential election on February 14.
The government's SmartTraveller website updated its guidelines for visiting our northern neighbour, saying extra precautions were needed.
"Frequent political rallies and possible protests are likely to occur in the lead-up to the election," the website warns.
"Expect traffic delays and restricted access to locations if protests occur.
"Avoid protests and demonstrations and monitor local media for the latest updates."
Other existing warnings remain in place, including the possibility of terror attacks, volcanic eruptions, and stiff penalties for drug use and even the possession of some medications.

The February 14 elections will see the Indonesian electorate select the country's next president and vice president, as well as confirming the make-up of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Incumbent President Joko Widodo is barred by the Indonesian constitution from running for a third term in office.
