Today is the final day for New South Wales parents to apply for and use the government's Active Kids voucher before the scheme is replaced by one that is means-tested.
The program provided a $50 voucher for all parents, guardians and carers of school-enrolled children in New South Wales to use towards registered sport and active recreation providers.
The vouchers were available from July 1, 2023, and expire today.
From tomorrow, February 1, 2024, the government's new means-tested Active and Creative Kids scheme begins.
Under the new scheme, only parents who receive the Family Tax Benefit are eligible to receive the $50 voucher twice a year.
Any parent, guardian or carer of a school-enrolled child aged 4½ to 18 in New South Wales, who receives Family Tax Benefit Part A or Part B or both, is eligible to apply.
This includes those who are home-schooled or enrolled in secondary school education at TAFE NSW.
Where to use Active and Creative Kids vouchers
The outgoing scheme allowed families to use the vouchers to pay ahead for activities such as swimming lessons or club registration fees.
The full voucher amount needed to be used or the remainder forfeited in a single transaction.
Activities as diverse as circus and trapeze classes, tenpin bowling, coding, robotics and slam poetry are all covered under the scheme.
